Un modelo sobre la coordinación de políticas macroeconómicas entre socios comerciales

Abstract

La mayor integración económica entre Colombia y otros países de la región (especialmente Venezuela) puede convertirse en una fuente adicional de inestabilidad macroeconómica para el país. Para minimizar esta posibilidad es deseable que los socios comerciales armonicen sus políticas, de manera que se reduzca la volatilidad en los flujos de comercio. En efecto, de acuerdo con el modelo de desarrollo en este trabajo, el equilibrio sin coordinación entre dos socios comerciales es ineficiente: bajo otra combinación de políticas al menos uno de los dos países podría mejorar su situación (en términos de bienestar) sin que el otro empeore. Sin embargo, para que la coordinación sea efectiva es necesario que ambos países cumplan con lo pactado. De no ser así, ésta puede resultar en un nivel de bienestar inferior al que se obtiene cuando los dos países actúan autónomamente.
