La evolución de la propensión marginal a consumir de los hogares españoles entre 2017 y 2022

Abstract

Motivación Desde 2019, el consumo en España ha aumentado menos que la renta y la tasa de ahorro se ha incrementado. Este artículo analiza la evolución de la propensión marginal a consumir de los hogares y su potencial contribución al cambio en la tasa de ahorro. Ideas principales •La propensión marginal al consumo (MPC) se estima en la Encuesta de Competencias Financieras (ECF) y la Encuesta Financiera de las Familias (EFF) mediante la pregunta: «¿Qué proporción de un premio de lotería equivalente a un mes de ingresos gastaría en los siguientes 12 meses?». •En España, la MPC ha caído en los últimos años respecto a los valores previos a la pandemia. Según la EFF, esta caída es notable entre los hogares de mayor renta, quienes alquilan su vivienda y aquellos cuyos activos líquidos han aumentado más. •La tasa de ahorro agregada habría aumentado en cerca de 2 puntos porcentuales entre 2017 y 2022 (equivalente al 50 % del incremento observado durante este período) debido a los cambios estimados en la MPC.
