El impacto económico del COVID-19 en las empresas españolas según la Encuesta del Banco de España sobre la Actividad Empresarial (EBAE)

Abstract

La crisis sanitaria del COVID-19 tuvo un impacto muy desigual en 2020 por sectores y regiones. Sin embargo, existe poca evidencia hasta la fecha sobre el impacto heterogéneo de la crisis sobre las diferentes empresas dentro de cada sector y región. Este artículo ofrece una primera descripción de las características que han determinado la intensidad con la que las empresas se han visto afectadas por la pandemia. Para ello, hace uso de las respuestas recibidas —algo más de 4.000— a la primera edición de la Encuesta del Banco de España sobre la Actividad Empresarial (EBAE), lanzada en noviembre de 2020. Los resultados muestran que la facturación y el empleo descendieron más en las empresas de menor tamaño. Además, se observa que la crisis ha tenido efectos más negativos sobre las empresas más jóvenes, las menos productivas y las localizadas en zonas urbanas, dentro de cada sector y región. En el caso del empleo, una mayor ratio de temporalidad se encuentra asociada a mayores descensos de la ocupación.
