La renta y el ahorro de los hogares en la zona del euro durante la primera ola de la pandemia

Abstract

Este artículo evalúa el impacto inmediato que tuvo la primera ola de la pandemia sobre la renta, el consumo y el ahorro de los hogares en la zona del euro, tanto a escala agregada como para las principales economías del área. A partir de las cuentas de los sectores institucionales, con información hasta el segundo trimestre, se observa una caída contenida de la renta de los hogares, a pesar del deterioro del mercado de trabajo, gracias a la rapidez y el gran alcance de las medidas de política económica aprobadas. Sin embargo, el desplome del consumo durante el período de confinamiento hizo que el ahorro repuntara de manera extraordinaria. La irrupción de la segunda ola y la incertidumbre sobre el alcance del impacto económico contribuirán a que, durante un tiempo adicional, el ahorro se mantenga relativamente elevado y que la bolsa de ahorro privado acumulada no aflore en su totalidad en forma de un mayor gasto.
