Ajuste competitivo y recuperación: la experiencia británica tras la depreciación de la libra

Abstract

La experiencia de Reino Unido tras la depreciación de la libra al inicio de la crisis ilustra cómo un ajuste del tipo de cambio nominal puede permitir recuperar competitividad precio de forma rápida y ampliar el excedente de los sectores productores de comerciables, contribuyendo, potencialmente, a limitar los efectos adversos de la recesión. Sin embargo, este proceso parece haber tenido un impacto limitado, ya que no se ha producido una mejora genuina de la productividad y de los costes unitarios que haya permitido la consolidación de las ganancias de competitividad.
