Abstract

The diversity of the needs of marketplaces leaded to the increase of complexity of products and services. There are different frameworks to fulfil the needs of production and service enterprises and some strategies were born to realise them from the just-in-case strategy through just-intime to just-in-sequence. One of their most important problems is the make-or-buy decision problem, which is also known as sourcing, outsourcing or subcontracting problem. This paper develops a harmony search based optimization method, by the aid of which it is possible to choose the best structure for the BOM from the point of view make-or-buy. The developed algorithm was validated in the case of different problems: TSP, knapsack problem, heuristic test functions. The proposed approach has been developed to be applicable in manufacturing and other value making process.
