Migración venezolana e informalidad en el mercado local

Abstract

La investigación responderá las siguientes preguntas: Primero, ¿la inmigración venezolana ha tenido algún efecto causal sobre las tasas de informalidad de los trabajadores peruanos? Segundo, a diferencia de literatura previa concentrada en evaluar los efectos de la migración en los mercados laborales masculinos, nos cuestionamos si es que el efecto de la migración en Perú es heterogéneo a nivel de género. Existe evidencia de que la migración femenina concentrada en ocupaciones relacionadas al cuidado del hogar abarata los costos del cuidado de menores y empuja a las mujeres locales con hijos menores al mercado laboral formal. ¿Hay evidencia de que esto ocurre en el Perú? Asimismo, otro posible mecanismo en que la migración puede afectar diferenciadamente a las mujeres es a través del impacto que tiene la migración en la población masculina. Si la migración empeora las perspectivas laborales del hombre, es posible que las mujeres se conviertan en buscadoras de empleo (y quizá resulte en empleos informales). Finalmente, dado que los migrantes son jóvenes, ¿es este grupo demográfico local el más afectado? Este estudio se desarrolló como resultado del XXI Concurso Anual de Investigación CIES 2019, con el auspicio del Ministerio de Energía y Minas y la Fundación Manuel J. Bustamante De La Fuente.
