Áreas naturales protegidas en el Perú: efectos sobre la deforestación y su relación con el bienestar de la población amazónica

Abstract

El establecimiento de áreas naturales protegidas (ANP) consiste en uno de los principales mecanismos de política para proteger y mantener la existencia de diversos tipos de diversidad natural y evitar la extinción de especies de flora, fauna y diversidad biológica. De acuerdo con Joppa y Pfaff (2009) alrededor del 13% de la superficie del planeta está cubierta por áreas protegidas, cuya finalidad principal es preservar la biodiversidad, y recursos como el agua y el aire. El objetivo general de esta investigación es estudiar y determinar cuál es el impacto de las áreas protegidas establecidas en el Perú, tanto en variables ambientales, específicamente en la deforestación de la Amazonía; como socioeconómicas (pobreza e ingreso). Es importante reconocer la heterogeneidad en el establecimiento de áreas protegidas (por ejemplo, parques nacionales, reservas nacionales o bosques de protección) y las actividades económicas permitidas para cada tipo de área protegida. Este estudio se desarrolló como resultado del XII Concurso Anual de Investigación CIES 2010, con el auspicio del Centro Internacional de Investigaciones para el Desarrollo (IDRC, por sus siglas en inglés).
