Un análisis de las estrategias utilizadas para enfrentar el sismo del año 2007 en Ica: ¿fueron efectivas en la mejora del empleo e ingresos?

Abstract

La presente investigación explora indicadores socioeconómicos que muestran cuál fue el impacto del sismo del 15 de agosto de 2007 para los pobladores de Ica y su economía. En particular, se utiliza información de encuestas de hogares relacionada con el ámbito laboral. Si bien el shock negativo no se reflejó en el PBI, este sí ha tenido un impacto sobre el empleo y las tasas de participación, afectando a algunos grupos laborales más que a otros, como jóvenes o mujeres. Asimismo, los ingresos laborales se han reducido en cierta medida. Mediante un modelo econométrico se estiman los determinantes de la vulnerabilidad de los pobladores de Ica, así como la efectividad de las estrategias utilizadas para enfrentar el shock negativo sufrido. Este estudio se desarrolló como resultado del X Concurso Anual de Investigación CIES 2008, con el auspicio de la Agencia Canadiense para el Desarrollo Internacional (ACDI), Centro Internacional de Investigaciones para el Desarrollo (IDRC, por sus siglas en inglés), y el Banco Scotiabank.
