Determinantes socioeconómicos de la delincuencia: una primera aproximación al problema a nivel provincial

Abstract

El estudio tiene como objetivo determinar las causas socioeconómicas de la delincuencia. Del análisis de Encuesta Continua de 2006 del INEI, encontramos que existe una heterogeneidad en número y tipo de delitos a nivel regional que se reproduce a nivel provincial. Este hecho estaría explicado por la heterogeneidad económica y social entre las regiones y provincias. Asimismo, comprobamos que existe un número significativo de delitos que no son denunciados, lo que hace que las estadísticas oficiales estén subestimadas. Finalmente, mediante la estimación de un modelo de método generalizado de momentos, según los datos disponibles, se encuentra que diversas variables socioeconómicas tendrían un peso importante en la incidencia de la delincuencia, pero su significancia y signo sería diferenciado por tipo de delito. Este estudio se desarrolló como resultado del IX Concurso Anual de Investigación CIES 2007, con el auspicio de la Agencia Canadiense para el Desarrollo Internacional (ACDI) y el Centro Internacional de Investigaciones para el Desarrollo (IDRC, por sus siglas en inglés).
