Abstract

Real estate’s wealth financialization process represents a way to convert households’ real estate wealth into cash flows. These solutions of Home equity conversion are an important option when the sale of real estate is not the best alternative in order to satisfy family needs. The paper investigates the variables that affect the households’ interest towards Hec financial instruments exploiting, in addition to existing literature, the analysis of household credit behaviours along with traditional socio-economic variables. The main result of the analysis shows how a greater confidence with credit, as well as a positive attitude towards the use of consumer credit, represent a significant determinant of the interest in these real estate wealth transformation techniques
