Abstract

Lithium--sulfur batteries are regarded as highly promising next-generation energy storage devices due to their outstanding theoretical specific capacity (1675 mAh/g), high energy density (2600 Wh/kg), abundant raw material sources, environmental compatibility, and low cost. Nevertheless, their practical implementation remains hindered by rapid capacity fading and limited cycle life. Conductive polymers can not only enhance overall electrode conductivity but also provide physical or chemical barriers that suppress the shuttle effect of lithium polysulfides, thus alleviating capacity decay and improving electrochemical performance. This review focuses on the use of polypyrrole, polythiophene, polyaniline, and polyacrylonitrile in lithium--sulfur batteries. Representative advances in recent years are highlighted, and the future role of polymers in advancing the practical application of lithium--sulfur batteries is envisioned.
