Abstract

The fast growth of the integrated media environment is creating new ways of distributing news through the medium of short-form video (i.e., news short videos), which are quickly becoming the main means by which people receive news. To serve this new demand, new ways to edit and produce news short videos need to be developed to be more efficient and better serve users. Using the lens of Integrated Media, this paper provides an analysis of the news short video editing and production process by examining the core components as they are currently understood, as well as the challenges to the creation of quality and effective news short videos. Through the research, an emphasis on building editing concepts based upon user orientated design principles, creating stronger narrative conflicts and emotional connections, and being flexible to multiple platform formats significantly increases the overall appeal and influence of a news short video and is a valuable resource for news practitioners.
