Abstract
This paper investigates the diverse expressions of nomadic culture in Su Xinping's solo exhibition and the TV series To the Wonder, employing nomadic theory as the analytical framework. First, the study introduces Deleuze's nomadic theory, emphasizing its conceptualization of movement, fluidity, and deterritorialization, and applies it to the analysis of Su Xinping's artworks. Through this lens, the paper examines the tensions and dialogues between modernity and nature, nomadism and migration, as well as tribal life and urban environments. The artworks reveal how nomadic sensibilities manifest in contemporary visual art, highlighting a dynamic interplay between rooted traditions and transformative social contexts. Subsequently, the analysis shifts to the TV series To the Wonder, which employs exquisite cinematography, deliberate pacing, and nuanced editing to depict a poetic portrayal of rural pastoral life. The series foregrounds characters navigating the intricate balance between tradition and modernity, revealing both internal struggles and pathways toward cultural integration. Through the lens of nomadic theory, the drama illustrates how human mobility, environmental interaction, and social change shape individual experiences and collective identity. Finally, the paper presents a comparative analysis of the two works, highlighting both similarities and differences in artistic medium, expressive approach, and cultural significance. While Su Xinping's exhibition and To the Wonder operate through distinct media-visual arts and cinematic narrative, respectively-both demonstrate a profound engagement with nomadic culture and its reflections on contemporary society. They interrogate the relationships between individuals and the temporal-spatial contexts they inhabit, exploring the continuity of tradition amid modern transformations. By juxtaposing these two forms, the study underscores the multifaceted ways in which nomadic culture is represented in contemporary art and media, revealing its ongoing relevance in understanding human interaction with modernity, environment, and socio-cultural change.
