The Road of Inheritance: Enlightenment of Emperor Wu's Silk Road on the Economic Development of the Belt and Road Initiative in China's Post-Pandemic Era

Abstract

This article explores the historical continuity and strategic logic behind China's state-led economic initiatives by comparing the Silk Road under Emperor Wu (119 BCE) with the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in the post-pandemic era (2023-). The research addresses how China's developmental model, grounded in centralized authority and cross-regional connectivity, adapts to shifting global dynamics. The study applies a three-dimensional analytical framework-national strategy, institutional innovation, and technological transformation-developed to assess how historical and contemporary policies respond to external pressures and internal demands. An innovative aspect of the study is its systematic application of ancient statecraft to modern international strategy, offering a novel perspective on the enduring mechanisms of Chinese economic governance.
