Convergence between Tourism, Technology and Environment through Digital Innovations for the Revitalization of Rural Areas in the Republic of Moldova

This article examines the role of the convergence between tourism, digital technology, and environmental sustainability in the revitalization of rural areas in the Republic of Moldova. The aim of the research is to assess how digital innovations—such as online platforms, mobile applications, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and the sharing economy—contribute to the development of sustainable rural tourism. The methodology includes a review of the specialized literature, an analysis of national and European strategic documents, as well as the formulation of research hypotheses regarding the impact of smart technologies on the attractiveness and competitiveness of rural destinations. The results highlight that digitalization facilitates the co-creation of tourism experiences, improves access to information, stimulates the participation of local communities, and contributes to the protection of natural and cultural heritage. In the context of the Republic of Moldova, digital technologies act as a catalyst for rural development by promoting ecotourism, agritourism, and authentic experiences. The conclusions emphasize the need for integrated policies that support digital infrastructure, technological education, and cooperation among local stakeholders.
