Abstract

Urban aquatic ecosystems, such as Valea Morilor Lake in the municipality of Chișinău, host fungal communities adapted to pollution and anthropogenic stress conditions, representing sources of enzymes with biotechnological potential that remain largely unexplored. In this study, 43 fungal strains isolated from this lake from water, sediment, and biofilm were evaluated for their enzymatic activities: catalase, amylase, lipase, and cellulase. The results revealed significant variability in enzymatic activities among fungal strains belonging to different genera. Catalase activity was the most frequently expressed, while the genera Trichoderma and Alternaria stood out by exhibiting moderate levels of all investigated enzymatic activities. These findings confirm the important role of fungi in aquatic basins in the processes of organic matter recycling and provide premises for their application in ecological bioprocessing.
