Abstract

Due to its economic significance, global value chain has lately been extensively researched both in theory and practice. In that context, the added value created through the whole chain value is analysed. The concept of added value is also analysed not only on the global, but also on the national and entrepreneurial level. Regarding that fact, in this work we comparatively analyse the effects of application of concept of added value in the trade of the European Union and Serbia especially. Within this, the dynamics of size, structure and determinants of added value are envisaged in the context of trade in Serbia. The research which is based on the original official statistics of added value of trade in Serbia showed that in terms of its size it is a very significant economic category, as it is in the European Union, and it represents an important source for improving the efficiency of business management, human resources, growth and development of trade in Serbia.
