Abstract

The study proposes an approach to the evaluation and monitoring of investment priorities in research and development and innovation identified by the Italian regions in the smart specialization strategies defined in the 2014-2020 and 2021-2027 EU programming. The methodology applied is based on the construction of a complexity index, which measures the regional capacity to export innovative products and to satisfy new market needs, as a tool of the potential of specific sectors of economic activity in which the territories can invest
