Boekbespreking: Van Aristoteles tot algoritme

Abstract

In dit artikel bespreek ik het boek Van Aristoteles tot algoritme (2022) van Guido van der Knaap, met als ondertitel ‘Filosofie van kunstmatige intelligentie'. Van der Knaap studeerde politicologie, wijsbegeerte en logica en is als docent verbonden aan het Instituut voor Interdisciplinaire Studies aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Dit boek is zijn debuut en bereikte de shortlist van de Socratesbeker voor het meest urgente, oorspronkelijke en prikkelende filosofieboek. Het nodigt daarmee uit tot nadenken over de rol van techniek in het leven van alledag. De mogelijkheden van kunstmatige intelligentie (AI) worden steeds praktischer. Denk aan toepassingen zoals gezichtsherkenning om toegang tot je telefoon te krijgen, chatbots om gesprekken mee te voeren en zelflerende algoritmes om patronen in grote databestanden te ontdekken. Deze ontwikkelingen roepen fundamentele vragen op over de interactie tussen mens en machine. Ook accountants zullen zich moeten verhouden tot deze technologische veranderingen die steeds sneller lijken te gaan. Is de klant echt of nep in het gesprek dat je online voert? Is het patroon in de data toeval of wijst het op fraude? Zijn de antwoorden van de chatbot bruikbaar als controle-informatie? In deze boekbespreking geef ik eerst een korte impressie van het boek, daarna een reflectie op het boek en tot slot mijn opinie.
