Management control en de motivatie van medewerkers: effecten van sociale aansturing in de publieke sector

Abstract

Motivatie van medewerkers is ook in de publieke sector van belang om de taken op een goede manier te vervullen. Een vraag die hierbij gesteld kan worden is of de motivatie van medewerkers kan worden beïnvloed door gebruik te maken van sociale aansturingsinstrumenten. Dit artikel richt zich op het beantwoorden van deze vraag en maakt daarvoor gebruik van een survey-onderzoek dat is uitgevoerd bij 162 managers in publiekesectororganisaties. De resultaten laten zien dat zowel personeelsaansturing als cultuuraansturing (de twee vormen van sociale aansturing waar we ons in dit onderzoek op richten) een positief en significant indirect effect hebben op medewerkersmotivatie via betrokkenheid; ofwel, de positieve effecten van sociale aansturing op medewerkersmotivatie worden volledig gemedieerd door betrokkenheid.
