De Regels van het Spel; een reflectie op ‘Publish or Perish'

Abstract

Spel is een nuttige bezigheid, en misschien zelfs een voorwaarde voor beschaving en creativiteit, betoogt de cultuurhistoricus Johan Huizinga in zijn boek Homo ludens (Huizinga 1938, 2008). Daarnaast beweert hij dat de mens spel nodig heeft om bij te komen van het echte leven. Een voorbeeld van zo'n spel is het recent uitgebrachte spel ‘Publish or Perish', dat de cultuur rond het publiceren van wetenschappelijke artikelen uitvergroot en op prikkelende wijze tegen het licht houdt. Dit artikel schetst een beeld van de verschillende facetten van het spel en het positieve rimpeleffect dat hiervan uit kan gaan voor (met name) de academisch gevormde spelers ervan.
