Turismo Sustentável: Uma Aplicação ao Caso Madeirense

Abstract

O conceito de desenvolvimento sustentável tornou-se, dadas as crescentes preocupações com o ambiente, um dos temas mais presentes na investigação sobre turismo. O propósito deste estudo é avaliar a sustentabilidade do sector na Madeira, onde ele tem uma importância crucial. Para tal, foram obtidos dados sobre diversos indicadores respeitantes às várias dimensões de um turismo sustentável. Com os mesmos procedeu-se ao cálculo de um índice global de sustentabilidade, de acordo com o barómetro da sustentabilidade do Turismo (BTS), segundo o qual a Madeira se encontra muito próximo da sustentabilidade potencial. A aplicação do modelo AMOEBA ao turismo madeirense permitiu aferir quais as dimensões em que a região deve melhorar a sua performance por forma a incrementar a sua atractividade enquanto destino turístico.
