Impacto dos Aeroportos no Desenvolvimento Regional do Arquipélago dos Açores

Abstract

O presente artigo pretende avaliar a influência dos aeroportos no desenvolvimento das diferentes ilhas dos Açores. Para isso assume-se que a evolução da população é uma boa variável proxi para estimar a evolução económica das ilhas e testam-se várias variáveis explicativas associadas à existência de aeroportos: os potenciais de oferta e de procura, que se alteram com a rede de conexões das ilhas entre elas e ao exterior, as características específicas de cada ilha, o período de análise e a própria existência de aeroporto. Conclui-se que, apesar da existência de aeroporto ter um efeito positivo no desempenho económico da ilha onde se instala, que o potencial de procura tem um efeito positivo na economia da ilha e que o potencial de oferta tem um efeito negativo.
