A importância do desenvolvimento regional na localização de equipas de futebol profissionais. O caso português 1970-1999

Abstract

Este trabalho procura testar a hipótese se “O nível de desenvolvimento económico da região condiciona a presença das colectividades de futebol profissional, aí sedeadas, no escalão principal da competição”. Partindo de um modelo de escolha racional, e trabalhando com dados Binary TimeSeries Cross-Section (BTSCS), debruça-se sobre o caso português, observado entre 1970 e 1999. Os resultados confirmam a importância de três factores que aumentam a probabilidade de que determinado espaço acolha a sede de determinado clube desportivo a militar na divisão principal: o rendimento per capita, o nível de infra-estruturas e a dimensão populacional.
