Abstract

The purpose of this study is to assess the prospects for the implementation of the hydrogen energy concept taking into account such factors as expected demand, availability of fossil fuels and their price determinants, consumer demand, and implementation of the concept of global decarbonization in order to fulfill the sustainable development concept using Germany as an example. With rising demand for hydrogen, which is seen as an industrial alternative for decarbonizing the energy sector and lowering greenhouse gas emissions, an urgent question about the need to replace hydrogen produced using traditional energy resources with completely environmentally friendly hydrogen arises. It is important to note that the production of green hydrogen is now more expensive than alternative energy sources, and its competitiveness depends on changes in the cost of CO2 emissions and the output of electrolytic plants. The coming decade will provide an opportunity to assess the extent to which the global expansion of the green hydrogen industry will impact the energy sector.
