Healthcare Systems in the Island States of South Asia

Abstract

Healthcare is an essential part of the economy of any country. The health of the nation influences its economic growth, therefore financing of the healthcare sector is one of the most urgent challenges that should be addressed by the government especially given the recent Covid pandemic. Over the past decades the countries of South Asia have been rapidly developing both in terms of the economy and social spheres. It refers not only to the largest country in the region and world power India, but also to smaller island states as Sri-Lanka and the Maldives. In the article, the author considers the key factors characterizing the healthcare in each country, analyzes achievements, problems and government programs supporting the sector.
