Abstract

Promotion of agricultural trade in compliance with the principles of sustainable development is a global trend driven by changes in demand. Also it contributes to higher competitiveness of the producers improving their reputation and image. Adherence to the sustainable development principles is an essential condition for exporting products to the developed markets. The OECD and FAO responsible business standards for agricultural supply chains are among the most important standards for international trade as they establish the environmental and social requirements for companies. However, such requirements may in effect create non-tariff barriers. National Contact Points (NCPs) as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism were created to monitor implementation of the OECD Responsible Business Conduct Standards. Exporter’s involvement in specific instances to the National Contact Point might seriously affect the company’s reputation and opportunities to find trading partners and raise funds.
