The development of international container transit in Russia’s foreign trade

Abstract

The author reveals the basic preconditions for growth in international container transit through the territory of Russia taking into account the development trends in international trade among countries in the Asia-Pacific region and the European Union. Key weaknesses of Russia’s of international container transit system, with its segmentation on the main quality characteristics,are identified.In order to spur transport services exports the author proposes directions for complex development of the international transit communications system in terms of increasing state assistance for international transit and support for domestic companies in foreign markets. The principles of a multimodal transit container pool are formulated.
