Abstract

The issue of the depletion of fish stocks in the world ocean has become increasingly relevant in recent years. Despite the vital importance of fish in global trade and fish as a source of livelihood for many nations, the problem of over fishing remains unsolved. The article examines the existing methods of regulating the fish market (tariff, non-tariff and other measures) and evaluates their efficiency. Special attention is given to fisheries subsidies that are considered as a factor hampering the sustainable development of fisheries. An extensive review of the global action to tackle the problem is also presented in the article.
