Abstract

This article is dedicated to the problems of the existing research approaches and quantitative methods of evaluation of the publication landscape of the Russian science. The aim of the research is to develop universal tools for the publication landscape of the Russian science analysis that enable different scientometric experiments. The subject of the research are the methods of analysis of the publication landscape of the Russian science. The main tasks of the research are 1) to develop algorithms for article fractional counting and 2) to demonstrate their application in practice. Web of Science Core Collection provides the information and analytical base of the research. This database is characterized by high requirements for the quality of scientific journals, which publish the most valuable information on research results in all fields of science. In the course of the study the authors have determined two methodological approaches to the calculation of the number of scientific publications and have worked out four algorithms of fractional counting, which enable different options of bibliographic data analysis depending on the aim and objectives of Russia’s publication landscape construction. The first methodological approach is based on measuring the number of affiliations and may be applied at each level of the hierarchical system. The second approach is based on identification of organizations or organizations’ groups and may be used to count the number of articles at the relevant levels. The research outcome is illustrated by application of the developed algorithms to the solution of the most typical tasks, which may arise in connection with mapping the publication landscape of the Russian science.
