El comercio exterior del Ecuador, 1890-1950

Abstract

A finales del siglo XIX el Ecuador se integró en los mercados internacionales de la mano del cacao. A mediados del siglo XX, otro producto encabezaba la cesta de exportaciones ecuatorianas, las bananas. En este espacio de tiempo, las operaciones de comercio exterior ecuatoriano han estado sujetas a dinámicas que merecen ser discutidas. Este ensayo analiza, desde una perspectiva descriptiva, varios elementos del comercio exterior ecuatoriano: la fiabilidad de los registros locales de comercio exterior de la fuente ecuatoriana, su oferta exportable, el comportamiento de las importaciones y, finalmente, la composición geográfica de los flujos del comercio exterior de esta economía pequeña y abierta.
