Improving Rural New York's Water Systems

Abstract

By neglecting regularly scheduled upkeep, New York's rural water systems expose their customers to possible health hazards as well as service interruptions. Most towns seemed able to pay for regular upkeep. The problem is to get elected officials to give it a high priority. By fixing things only when they break, rural systems may incur larger costs by having to replace equipment that wears out prematurely.
