Getting a Job in Poor Counties of the Rural South

Abstract

A lack of jobs makes finding work extremely difficult according to more than half of those interviewed in low-income counties in the rural South. More than a third said that not knowing the right people and not having enough training or education also were serious obstacles. These survey responses reveal why many residents of low-income rural areas in the South feel they did not fully share in the 1970's rural revival.
