Abstract

The complexity of the problem of social and technological transformation in farming communities in the management and utilization of land resources, so that the author examines specifically the practicesof traditional lowland rice farming in the past and the process of transformation from traditional farming technology to new Panca Usahatani technology in farming communities in South Sulawesi. The "Panca Usahatani" technology has long been applied in every district throughout Indonesia, so that what has occurred is not only changes in the production process and means of production, it has even resulted in changes in the attitude, behavior and way of thinking of the farming community as a whole. The research method used is narrative qualitative, with a phenomenological approach. Qualitative data analysis techniques mean that the data or information that has been obtained is then linked between the meanings of the various data or information that has been obtained. The results of the study show that there is a traditional agricultural culture system of the Bugis-Makassar tribe, there are 12 (twelve) main farming activities that tend to provide greater or wider employment opportunities for women than men.
