Abstract

The world food situation has worsened since 2007-2008 with a sharp rise in food prices which has noticeably increased the number of people suffering symptoms of starvation. The analysis of temporary and structural factors of the crisis leads to the current way of functioning of the international agricultural economy. Food availability is enough to feed the population of the world, but a 15 percent of people can neither produce nor have an access to it. This paradox is the result of a specific organization of the international agricultural economy. An alternative way of functioning of such economy implies the superseding of the concept of food security and a renewal of the theoretical and strategic approaches.
