Abstract

The study of animal production systems from economic and mechanistic points of view have caused an uncoordination between different agents involved in the improvement of production systems and farms, those have caused the development of unsustainable production systems. The first part of this paper is made up of an overview about possible applications of the theory of systems to the study of animal production systems and the concept of farming system and its usefullness in the development of sustainable production systems. One of the aims of the animal production systems study is the knowledged of farm diversity, because of, the second part of this paper is made up of an overview about usefullness and methodology to tipology building in the different stage of research and development projects.
