Abstract

Esta informacion permite mejorar la orientacion de la politica agraria al objeto de aumentar la sostenibilidad de este sector...The aim of this paper is to carry out a comparative analysis of alternative methods for the calculation of composite indicators in order to measure global sustainability of the agricultural activity. These methods have been applied to the irrigated agriculture of the Duero basin (Spain), using a data set of indicators previously calculated for different policy scenarios at farm level. The results establish a hierarchy of the policy scenarios based on their sustainability. Analyzing farms-type heterogeneity in each scenario, it is also possible to determine the main features of the most sustainable farms in each case. This information could improve the agricultural policy implementation in order to increase the sustainability of this sector.
