Abstract

The objective of this work was to estimate the technical optimum and economic optimum levels by determining a quadratic production function in stabulated rabbits, fed a commercial diet and the addition of Acacia farnesiana, for 30 days (October 2020). A completely randomized block design was used, 30 experimental units during a 30-day housing period, the initial live weight was 0.97 ± 0.12 kilograms, and the final live weight was 1.74 ± 0.65 kilograms. When no statistical difference was found in the blocks, we proceeded to use a quadratic bivariate regression model where the final live weight was the dependent variable and the food consumed as the independent variable. The results indicated that the technical optimal and economic optimal levels of the variable input were 14.35 and 11.10 kilograms, the average weight of the rabbits was 1.89 and 1.79 kilograms and the money gain of 141.68 and $160 for each rabbit terminated during the experiment. It is concluded that at the technical optimum level, the money gain is not necessarily greater than at the economic optimum level; therefore, the producer should use the technical recommendation of the weight at the optimum economic level.
