Abstract

The knowledge has always occupied the central place in economic growth. Therefore, it is associated to scientific and technological development, fundamental assets to increase productivity, competitiveness and social welfare. In Mexico there is a belief that investment in science and technology is a key to access a welfare economy based on knowledge. This paper analyzes the impact of the three main sector financing programs for science, technology and innovation in the regions of the country, promoted by the Mexican National Council for Science and Technology (CONACYT) in the period 2001-2014. It is concluded that funding has played an important role in creating conditions for the development and competitiveness of the regions, but not evenly among the states.
