Abstract
A redução dos desmatamentos e das queimadas precisa estar acompanhada da incorporação do mesmo montante de áreas já desmatadas no passado sob o risco de prejudicar as atividades produtivas da Amazônia......Paying attention to forested areas that represent 83% of the Amazon or to the 17% already deforested areas is the current political dilemma. The emphasis on biodiversity as the great future option for the Amazon carry mistakes in the search of futuristic products, forgetting the biodiversity of the past and present, where the big opportunities are. The current policies of REDD would be appropriate in the generation of suitable technologies that create an environmental welfare. Reducing deforestation and burning must be accompanied by the incorporation of the same amount of already deforested areas at risk of harming the productive activities of the Amazon
