Estratégia Para O Alcance Da Estabilidade De Renda Agrícola

Abstract

Foi uma honra ser convidado a falar na reunião dos economistas rurais brasileiros. Estou também satisfeito com o tema principal que me foi solicitado abordar, uma vez que este assunto foi o mesmo que apresentei na minha tese de doutoramento e no primeiro livro que publiquei, Forward Prices for Agriculture. Agradeço a oportunidade de discutir um tema ao qual dediquei quantidade apreciável de meu tempo e pensamento muitos anos atrás e que tem estado relacionado a grande parte do trabalho que tenho feito em anos recentes. Enquanto meu tópico se refere a estratégias para alcançar estabilidade de renda, é necessário antes considerar as fontes de instabilidade de renda na agricultura. Isto se baseia na hipótese, frequentemente ignorada por políticos agrícolas mundiais, de que deve haver alguma relação entre as fontes de um resultado indesejável e as estratégias para atenuar ou evitar aquele resultado. Darei também alguma atenção à questão de qual o grau de estabilidade de renda desejável ou desejado pelos produtores rurais.
