Abstract

The passing of Dr. M. S. Swaminathan at age 98 on September 28, 2023, marked the end of an epoch. For when the 10,000-year-long story of human agriculture is written, the six-decade time frame from 1963 through 2023 will be seen as the single greatest period of food production and hunger reduction in all human history.
