Leadership in project performance

The importance of leadership in project performance has been a topic of study in recent decades. Part of these studies also highlights the difficulties in the process of transforming specialists into managers, which must occur so that these professionals can develop managerial functions related to team performance in projects. Therefore, it becomes essential for the leader to understand which competencies they need to possess or develop in order to guide the group towards project success, as well as in which phases of the project their involvement is most important. The objective is to clarify these points, as well as to confirm the importance of leadership in project performance from the perspective of its members. The methodology used to collect responses was the application of an online questionnaire. The results obtained indicate that the leader's strategic vision is considered the most important competence for project success and that, in general, managerial competencies play a prominent role compared to others, thus confirming the importance of developing management functions for new leaders. Management participation was considered most essential in the planning stage. And finally, the importance of the leader for the success of the projects was confirmed from the point of view of the project members themselves, with 50% of the scores assigned to this question being greater than or equal to 9, on a scale of 0 to 10.
