Abstract
Land – the basic factor of production in agriculture - has a strategic role for the country. Currently in Poland, the way of managing it depends mainly on private owners. The state acts only as a regulator. The aim of the article was to examine the propensity of farmers to change the area of their farms and to determine the most important, according to them, reasons for these changes, or lack thereof. The authors’ own surveys, conducted in Dolnośląskie Voivodship, have revealed that the tendency to change the area of farms is small, because the largest group of respondents were farmers who in the years 1999-2012 did not change it. The most important causes of this stagnation, included the perception that there was no need to change, because the area of their farms is sufficient for agricultural activities, and they receive area payments and benefits from the Agricultural Social Insurance Fund. / Synopsis.
