Stan przemysłu spożywczego w Polsce na tle pozostałych krajów UE i USA

The aim of the paper was to assess the state of Polish food industry against the rest of the EU countries and the US based on the comparison of the degree of concentration of activities, labour productivity and selected structural features of this industry. The research is based on the data from the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) and the US Census Bureau which is part of the U.S. Department of Commerce. It was proved that in 2007-2014 the rate of growth of Polish food industry measured by an increase in turnover and value added in food processing sector was much higher than in the rest of the EU countries and the US. The progressive concentration of the food industry has led to the growth of labour productivity, giving a chance to improve its international competitive position. The branch structure of the food industry in Poland, viewed through the value of turnover, value added and employment, generally did not differ from the occurring in other EU countries and the US, being the largest producers and exporters of food in the world. / Synopsis. Celem artykułu była ocena stanu przemysłu spożywczego w Polsce na tle pozostałych krajów UE i USA w oparciu o porównanie stopnia koncentracji przedsiębiorstw, poziomu wydajności pracy oraz wybranych cech strukturalnych tego przemysłu. W badaniach wykorzystano dane Urzędu Statystycznego Unii Europejskiej (Eurostat) oraz agencji statystycznej Departamentu Handlu Stanów Zjednoczonych (US Census Bureau). Na podstawie przeprowadzonych analiz można stwierdzić, że w latach 2007-2014 tempo rozwoju polskiego przemysłu spożywczego mierzone wzrostem wartości obrotów i wartości dodanej w sektorze przetwórstwa żywności było znacznie szybsze niż w pozostałych krajach UE i USA. Postępująca koncentracja przemysłu spożywczego sprzyjała wzrostowi wydajności pracy, stwarzając szansę na poprawę jego międzynarodowej pozycji konkurencyjnej. Struktura branżowa przemysłu spożywczego w Polsce, rozpatrywana przez pryzmat wartości obrotów, wartości dodanej i zatrudnienia, zasadniczo nie odbiegała od występującej w pozostałych państwach UE i USA, a więc największych producentów i eksporterów żywności na świecie.
