Abstract

The main objective of this article is to assess the diversification of forestry function in European Union countries. Figures come from 2010 publications of Eurostat and the Central Statistical Office. The cluster analysis was made based on six forestry indicators (woodiness, forest area per inhabitant, the proportion of public ownership of forest, roundwood production, the proportion of plantations, the proportion of forests undisturbed by man). As a result researched countries were divided into five groups with different forestry characteristics. The analysis shows that forests in European Union countries have different functions (production and non-production), which is consistent with the concept of multi-functional forest, as well as the idea of sustainable development. / Synopsis. Głównym celem artykułu jest ocena zróżnicowania funkcji leśnej w krajach Unii Europejskiej. Dane liczbowe pochodzą z 2010 roku z publikacji Eurostatu i Głównego Urzędu Statystycznego.
