Abstract

The aim of this article is to present the changes that have taken place in export and import of fruits and their preserves after the Polish accession to the EU, as well as the competitiveness of the trade. The analysis covered the period 2004-2014 and has been conducted on the basis of the data from IERiGŻ-PIB. The value and the balance of trade, as well as the geographical structure of exchange were analysed, as were selected indicators of competitiveness. The main importers of fruits from Poland are old EU countries as well as CIS. Poland has a comparative advantage especially in the case of processed fruit, which is confirmed by values of TC, LFI and GLI. The reason for a large increase in exports to EU countries was largely the abolition of customs duties, attractive prices and high quality. The exchange rate also has an effect on trade of fruit and their preserves, as well as other products. / Synopsis.
