Abstract

The work presents results of a study conducted in 2009 and involving farmers who owned farms of up to 10 hectare located in 2 communes (gminas). The first commune is typically rural (in the Lubelskie Voivodeship) and the other is a multi-function commune. The farmers interviewed in both gminas, more than 50 years old owners of farms smaller than 5 hectare, are not going to make investment decisions or increase the size of their farms. The respondents who do intend to increase the size of their holding think that the optimum size of a farm, which brings sufficient income, ranges from 20 to 30 ha. They are younger farmers who own farms in a typically agricultural commune. Due to high land prices and lack of capital farmers prefer renting rather than buying land in order to increase their farms size. / Synopsis. Praca przedstawia wyniki badań przeprowadzonych w 2009 roku w gospodarstwach o powierzchni do 10 ha położonych w 2 gminach.
