Abstract

The aim of the study is to find the answer to the question of how the Common Agricultural Policy aims to achieve optimality at the micro and macro levels, while taking into account social and environmental criteria. The authors wish to draw attention to the problem of ‘composition error’ in the mechanisms of CAP, or contradictions in the pursuit of sustainability in agricultural sector. The achievement by the EU agricultural policy instruments of an optimum simultaneously in three dimensions (economic, social and environmental) is impossible, one can only strive to reduce discrepancies between them. The article shows that a part of solutions in CAP is not free from a classical ‘compostion error’, although consecutive reforms of agricultural policy head towards its limitation. / Synopsis.
